From Street Life to Home Life: Bridging the Environmental Gap for Rescued Street Dogs
How do we bridge the gap between street life and home life for rescued street dogs? This course explores the environmental and behavioral needs of dogs like the resilient Aspins of the Philippines, who may have learned to meet many of their needs in sensory-rich, flexible street environments while also facing real dangers such as hunger, injury, and human apathy.
Using the L.E.G.S. framework, this presentation examines how compassionate rescue and rehoming can unintentionally create new challenges when the dog’s former environment and coping strategies are not understood. Participants will explore creative ways to honor resilience while supporting trust, adaptability, and behavioral diversity in the home. Through comparison and case study, this course helps professionals build better transitions for street dogs entering family life.
