Family Animal Mediation: Expanding the F.D.M. Approach for Every Animal in the F.A.M.
How can the Family Dog Mediation approach expand to every animal in the family? This course uses the work of Temple Grandin, Ray Coppinger, Kim Brophey, and the broader L.E.G.S. framework to help participants think about welfare across species. Dogs may be the starting point, but many families share their lives with cats, horses, small mammals, birds, livestock, and other animals whose needs can be misunderstood in human homes.
This presentation offers practical questions professionals can ask when prioritizing the welfare of any species in the family system. Participants will explore how natural history, environment, social needs, sensory experience, health, and human expectations all shape behavior. The course invites a wider view of mediation, helping professionals support the whole family animal system with more curiosity, respect, and species-appropriate care.
