L.E.G.S for Shelters and Rescues
What does L.E.G.S. look like in a shelter or rescue environment? This course explores how the L.E.G.S. framework can transform the way organizations understand, support, and advocate for the dogs in their care. Angie shares the story of helping develop the DRIVE program and the process of changing the behavior program at Asheville Humane Society through a more complete, welfare-centered lens.
Participants will learn why shelter and rescue dogs need more than behavior labels, quick assessments, or generic training plans. This presentation looks at how Learning, Environment, Genetics, and Self can help teams better understand stress, behavior patterns, placement needs, and practical support strategies. The goal is to help shelters and rescues make more informed decisions while improving welfare for both dogs and the people caring for them.
