Senior Dogs L.E.G.S.

What changes when we look at senior dogs through the L.E.G.S. framework? This course explores the often-overlooked needs of aging dogs and the humans who love them. While much of the dog world focuses on puppies, adolescents, and adult behavior, families are increasingly navigating the emotional, physical, and practical realities of supporting dogs through the later chapters of life.

Participants will examine how aging affects Learning, Environment, Genetics, and Self, including changes in mobility, sensory processing, pain, cognition, routine, social tolerance, and quality of life. This presentation also considers the human side of senior dog care, including anticipatory grief, decision-making, and the need for realistic support. The goal is to help professionals guide families with more clarity, compassion, and welfare-centered planning as dogs age.
