The L.E.G.S. of a “Good Death”

What does L.E.G.S. have to do with a “good death”? This course explores end of life through both the canine and human experience, including the emotional process, physiological process, and aftermath of loss. The presentation looks at how each dog’s L.E.G.S. influence quality of life, disease progression, environmental needs, comfort, function, purpose, presence, and joy.

Participants will also consider how the human side of L.E.G.S. affects decision-making, grief, expectations, and the ability to recognize suffering. This course offers a compassionate framework for supporting families as they move from assessing quality of life to considering quality of death. The goal is to help professionals align the needs of the dog and the humans during one of the most difficult parts of the relationship, while reducing suffering on both sides.
